Wildfire Workshop in Fort CollinsContributed by Dave Cawrse, “Living with Fire: A Workshop for Homeowners living in the Wildland Urban Interface” will be on Saturday, April 5, 2014, 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Location: Firehouse #9, 4914 Shoreline Drive, Fort Collins, Colorado. There will be a discussion at the Firehouse in the morning, followed by a question and answer session. A free lunch will be served. For the afternoon we will go visit Roan Mountain Road in Redstone Canyon (northeast of Masonville) to view a fuel treatment success story from the High Park Fire, and also visit an active fuel treatment project. Transportation for the field trip will be provided from the Firehouse to Redstone Canyon and back. REGISTRATION FOR WORKSHOP “LIVING WITH FIRE” _________________________ International Day of ForestsContributed by Beginning in 2013, the UN General Assembly declared March 21st as the annual International Day of Forests. To help celebrate this occasion Bill Ciesla, member of the Northern Colorado Chapter of United Nations Association and the Society of American Foresters, will give an informal presentation on the importance of forests worldwide and of some of the factors that threaten their future viability. Bill is a professional forester and has worked with the U.S Forest Service, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and as a forest health consultant. He has provided technical assistance in forestry and forest protection to more than 35 countries. The meeting will take place Saturday, 22 March at the Global Village Museum, 200 West Mountain Ave, Fort Collins at 3:00 PM. Some manufacturers contend the EPA's proposed standards are so stringent that the higher production costs would either force them out of business or raise prices so high that many consumers could no longer afford their products. __________________________ Forestry Student BulletinContributed by Last Fall the Honor's Students in Foundations of Forestry at Front Range Community College did a multi-stage project looking at landowners in lower Rist Canyon and their understanding of available education and support out there for helping them manage their forests. The result was to create a one-page bulletin to get them usable information.
